Welcome to Tea and Tattle, a delightful gem nestled in the basement of an enchanting bookshop located at 41 Great Russell St, London WC1B 3PE, just a stone's throw from the iconic British Museum. With a charming atmosphere and an extensive selection of teas, this cozy café has quickly become a beloved spot for both locals and tourists alike.
As a food reviewer at Tea and Tattle, I was genuinely impressed by the inviting ambiance that combines literary charm with a touch of indulgence. The cafe specializes in afternoon tea, a quintessentially British experience, and their offerings certainly do not disappoint. Each set includes a delightful assortment of sandwiches, scones, and cakes, providing a perfect harmony of flavors and textures that beckons you to linger.
One of the highlights of my visit was, without a doubt, the scones. These fluffy delights were served warm and paired beautifully with a rich clotted cream and a selection of house-made jams. Customers rave about them, likening their experience to that of a cherished memory—one that they thought they had lost but found again in this inviting locale.
But it's not just the food that shines. The staff at Tea and Tattle are renowned for their kindness and attentiveness. They truly go above and beyond to accommodate dietary restrictions, making every guest feel welcome. This dedication to excellent service enhances the overall experience, allowing you to sit back, relax, and truly savor your time there.
For those who plan to enjoy this relaxing retreat, though, make sure to secure a reservation in advance. The intimate setting only allows for a limited number of guests, and you won't want to miss the opportunity to experience their affordable afternoon tea offerings, starting at only £19 per person.
In conclusion, whether you come for the tantalizing scones, the perfectly brewed tea, or simply to immerse yourself in the cozy atmosphere surrounded by books, Tea and Tattle is not just a café—it's an experience. A charming spot to take a break after a day of exploration, you're likely to leave refreshed and with a smile, eager to return and share the delight with a friend.
Charming little cafe at the basement of a bookshop. We ordered the afternoon tea set for two and it’s definitely worth it. There were sandwiches, scones and cakes in the set. The scones were amazing! Loving the jam that they use on the scone. Reservation is definitely a must as this is only a small shop. Do reserve around 1 hour to fully enjoy this experience especially if you’re here with a friend !
It is a charming little place located in an old bookstore across from the British Museum. I ordered the afternoon tea for one, and it was delicious. The portions were substantial, and the quality was good. The server was incredibly kind, attentive, and quick. The cafe is also accommodating for allergies. I highly recommend making a reservation for this affordable tea option!
Great alternative to the expensive hotel lobby teas. Fabulous scones served with lots of clotted cream and delicious jams, sandwiches, and cake. Cozy atmosphere in the basement under a book shop, across fr The British Museum. It reminded us of a place we found decades ago and then could never find again. Highly recommend for your afternoon repast.
Discovered this hidden gem for an affordable afternoon tea in London. Situated in the basement of a bookshop offering titles from around the world is Tea and Tattle. This charming tea parlour is an ideal retreat after a morning at the British Museum, conveniently located just opposite! You can choose between a shared afternoon tea at 38 or opt for 19 each, enjoying tea, sandwiches, scones, and cakes. They even serve a glass of homemade lemonade and a selection of jams.
Delightful afternoon tea for one! The staff was very attentive and worked with me to accommodate my dietary restrictions. There aren't many dairy free options available, but it was easy to request the cheese, etc to be left off the sandwiches. Thankfully my allergy isn't too severe, as I don't believe there were any dairy free cake options. But the food was delicious, even without the clotted cream! Such a relaxing and delicious way to spend an hour. I did not have a reservation, but I came by myself well before tea time. If you intend to have a proper tea with a group, make sure to reserve a table!
Afternoon Tea was a delight. The desserts and Scones were great. The finger sandwiches were nice. Some of the flavors weren't to my preferences, but they seemed fresh and well-made. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very quaint and intimate.
Love this place! Kind service and very tasty food. Scone was great! Clotted cream and raspberry vanilla jam on scone was heavenly. Sandwich bread had nice texture that i really enjoyed. Such a cozy place that you can just relax and enjoy the time.
My wife and I had a most delightful experience here our last full day in London. We had just returned from a week away in Cornwall and wanted to see a bit more of this wonderful city before our flight home the next day. We were lucky enough to walk in off the street and be seated downstairs with just a short wait. We opted for the full 'tea room experience' with a lovely tiered serving tray adorned with finger sandwiches, scones w/ cream & jam plus miniature deserts and a hot kettle of black tea. The entire experience was one which we will not forget soon. A must do while in this great city!
